Health Plans Must Establish Hands-on Support in Provider Practices

by | May 31, 2018

EAST LANSING, Mich., May 31, 2018 – In its latest white paper Accelerate Success in Value-based Healthcare, Medical Advantage reveals an innovative approach positioning health plans and physician practices as partners in care delivery. The consulting company sheds light on the fact that health plans possess a unique opportunity to influence the care delivery process to accelerate the path to their desired value-based care outcomes by providing hands-on support in provider practices.

“Physician practices need support in implementing value-based requirements, but they often lack the necessary resources,” said Trevor Schleicher, Director of Healthcare Transformation at Medical Advantage. The white paper uncovers how health plans can provide the necessary resources and or augment current resources in the form of trusted advisors or coaches who are focused on teaching the practice how to access, interpret, leverage, and integrate the tools and technology into their practice operations.

According to Medical Advantage, these “coaches” are uniquely positioned to be the expert on daily practice operations and to integrate the requirements of the health plan into the practice workflow. The coach ensures the practice captures and submits necessary data to the health plan – all with minimal disruption.

“This hands-on coaching approach drives meaningful improvement in patient care and health outcomes while attaining optimal financial performance for both the practice and the health plan,” added Paul MacLellan, CEO of Medical Advantage. “The primary role of the coach is focused on making the practice and health plan successful in their shared goals.”

Hands-on Support in Provider Practices

Medical Advantage uniquely embeds trusted advisors or coaches in the practice to provide hands-on personalized support using a proven set of practice interventions focused on quality, cost, and risk adjustment. A critical component in the design of each practice intervention is to include accurate capture of all metrics required for health plan success. This approach drives meaningful improvements in patient care and health outcomes which achieve optimal performance in health plan programs.
